pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, proofreading; general writing skills:
grammar / punctuation / mechanics skills. In addition to helping you with class assignments, we would love to help you with your résumés, cover letters, and personal statements for employment and for graduate school.

Admission to UMES is granted to those applicants whose academic qualifications indicate the potential for succeeding in college. Decisions for admissions are made on a rolling basis throughout the year. We strive to notify prospective students of a decision within 1-2 weeks from receiving a complete application and all required documents.

The mission of Gamma Omicron Chapter which is in line with that of Alpha Phi Sigma National includes:

Promotion of high scholarship among UMES Criminal Justice and related Majors actively engaged in collegiate preparation for professional services. The minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (and 3.2 in Criminal Justice courses) requirement for membership is aimed at emphasizing this point.

Keeping the members abreast of the advances in scientific research.

Elevating the ethical standards of the criminal justice professions and to establish in the public mind, the benefit and necessity of education and professional training.

Actively engaging in collegiate preparation for professional services

Engaging in charitable and community service projects aimed at improving mankind and relationship among students.
Alpha Phi Sigma is a service organization participating in many community service projects both on and off campus. We pledge to maintain this honorable ideal.

Mission
A lifelong Marylander, Angela was born and raised in Prince George’s County. Angela was taught from a young age to care for her neighbors and give back to her community – urged on by the words of her great-grandmother not to sit on the sidelines but “go farther and do better.”

Angela heard an early calling to public service and after graduating from Duke University and the University of Maryland School of Law, she worked as a law clerk in the Howard County Circuit Court, and later the Baltimore City Circuit Court, before becoming the first full-time Assistant State’s Attorney to handle domestic violence cases in Prince George’s County. Angela held a variety of roles in county government before making history as the youngest and first woman to be elected Prince George’s County State’s Attorney.

As the county’s top law enforcement officer, Angela stood up for families, taking on some of Maryland’s worst criminals, while treating victims and the accused with dignity and respect. Under her tenure, violent crime dropped by 50 percent and she established a first-of-its-kind unit to investigate and prosecute police and official misconduct.

The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is a student-led programming board that coordinates campus-wide events. These events include concerts, the homecoming dance, trivia nights, leadership sessions and off campus trips. The mission of CAB is to create diverse events, programs, and activities that foster personal development, school spirit, and community development.

Center for Access and Academic Success (CAAS) is committed to providing students with a safe and holistic learning environment that is comprehensive and conducive to learning. The goal of (CAAS) is to improve the students Cultural, Academic, Social, and Educational experience, through an all-inclusive educational approach. By pursuing, establishing, and maintaining collaborative internal and external strategic partnerships that are focused on student-driven learning and development, which aids in improving persistence, retention and graduation rates. To ensure CAAS decisions are student-driven and measurable, the objectives below were adopted and they focus on CAAS Center of Gravity (COG).

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore has several chapters of Greek Letter Organizations (NPHC), along with Non-Greek Social Fellowships (CIO). The active organizations on campus are committed to serving their community and uplifting the students of their HBCU.

In order to to be eligible for intake and initiation of any NPHC or Independent organization, every student of UMES must:
-Have Earned a Minimum of 28 Credits or More
-Earn a Minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.75
-Be a Full-Time Registered Student (12 credits or more for the semester)
-Must Have Attended UMES For Two (2) Consecutive Semesters
-Exemplify Good Citizenship
